National Mole Day is actually a celebration of chemistry. The "Father of Chemistry", Italian Amedeo Avogadro, discovered chemistry's basic measuring unit (6.02x10^23), known as Avogadro's Number. "For a given molecule, one mole is a mass (in grams) whose number is equal to the atomic mass of the molecule." In 1991, the National Mole Day Foundation was formed and the holiday is celebrated annually on October 23 by nerds all across the globe.
